Milwaukee had a big year last year when it comes to storage solutions. They introduced a few portable plastic tool boxes and a small parts storage organizer. For me the standout storage solution that was offered last year was their 117 cm rolling steel storage chest and cabinet set and not because it was their first entry into steel tool boxes, but because of the extreme value they offered. The tool boxes were moderately-sized and had a lot of features, including power outlets, a built in peg board for chest, self-closing drawers, liners for each drawer, heavy duty construction and some out of the box ideas such as their large power tool drawers that have built in compartments for individual power tools or batteries. They were able to fit all of these features into their steel tools boxes at a price that was unheard of at the time. They even went so far as to use Harbor Freight pricing.
Enough about last years news, this year right now, Milwaukee has just announced a new 76 cm storage chest and cabinet set with everything that made last years 117 cm rolling steel storage chest and cabinet set a huge hit and also a new 152 cm mobile work station.
The 76 cm steel storage chest and cabinet set is pretty much the mini me clone of the larger 117 cm set with all of the same features except now it is offered in a smaller 76 cm width and has 12 drawers. I feel this is a good direction to go with as not everyone has the space or need for the 117 cm set. Even though it is smaller, you still get all the features like the peg board and the self-closing drawers with 45kg capacity, power tool separators, laptop drawer, beefy wheels, reinforced angle iron, and heavy duty construction.
The new mobile work station, measuring 152cm in length, takes many of the same features and design as the current 117cm rolling steel chest but makes it wider at 152cm. This new mobile work station is portable and is exactly what its name suggests. This portable work bench features a reversible 3 cm thick hardwood top and just like the 117 cm steel storage chest, it also incorporates a built in peg board. The peg board is oversized with a 56 cm height and in my opinion mimics a back wall where you can store your tools, but the backwall is mobile because the workbench is mobile. The mobile workbench has 11 drawers and the same features that the 76 cm, 117 cm storage cabinet and set of tool chests. This mobile workbench includes a cabinet door with its own lock, and an included shelf. Milwaukee added a built-in quick access tool holder to the side of their workstation. This allows for small tools such as screwdrivers or ratchets to be stored. They also included an external shelf that can attach to the side. The mobile work station’s wider stance (152 cm) required that Milwaukee add 2 additional casters to the center. This makes a total of 6 wheels. The 2 center casters are fixed while the 4 outer casters are 360 degree rotating casters allowing the mobile work station to make easy turns. The 152 cm mobile work station can supporta max weight capacity of 2,200.
